Peru & Bolivia: 15-Day Journey Through the Andes and Altiplano
This 15-day journey offers a rich exploration of Peru and Bolivia, two countries where ancient traditions, dramatic landscapes, and vibrant cultures converge. Designed for discerning travelers, the program blends history, nature, and human connection in an experience that is both meaningful and memorable.
The itinerary begins in Lima, Peru’s coastal capital, known for its colonial architecture and dynamic gastronomy. From there, the route continues to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, offering insight into Inca ingenuity and stunning mountain scenery. Visits to Pisaq, Ollantaytambo, Maras, and Moray provide a deeper understanding of Andean life, both past and present.
Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, opens its doors with a comprehensive city tour before the journey moves south to Lake Titicaca. A two-day visit to the Uros, Amantani, and Taquile Islands allows for meaningful interactions with local communities.
Crossing into Bolivia, the program includes the archaeological site of Tiwanaku and the vibrant city of La Paz, set against the backdrop of the Andes. The final days are dedicated to the surreal landscapes of the Uyuni Salt Flats, with visits to Tunupa Volcano and Incahuasi Island.

Day 1 | Arrival in Lima |
Day 2 | Visit to Lima The visit continues at the Cathedral of Lima, a landmark of colonial architecture and the final resting place of Francisco Pizarro. Inside, explore a captivating religious museum that reflects the spiritual and artistic legacy of the colonial period. Your guide will then accompany you to the San Francisco Church and its adjoining monastery, renowned for their baroque style and finely preserved details. Admire the cloisters and entrance hall, adorned with original Sevillian tiles from 1620. The tour also includes access to the church’s museum, the Zubarán Room, and the historic library, each offering valuable insights into Peru’s ecclesiastical and artistic traditions. The visit culminates in the monastery’s famous catacombs—underground burial chambers used during the colonial era. Walking through these solemn passageways provides a thought-provoking perspective on Lima’s layered history and its colonial legacy. |
Day 3 | Arrival in Cusco & Sacred Valley Tour with Pisaq and Ollantaytambo Your private tour begins with a visit to the Pisac Archaeological Site, an impressive Inca complex perched on the mountainside. The site features remarkable stonework and a series of agricultural terraces that reflect the ingenuity of Inca engineering. Afterward, explore the Pisac Market, a vibrant gathering where local communities trade produce, textiles, and crafts. It’s an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in regional culture—and perhaps find a few unique souvenirs. Visit the Ollantaytambo Fortress, an imposing archaeological site with immense terraces, finely carved stonework, and sweeping views of the valley. According to legend, the site is named after the warrior Ollanta, who defied the Inca nobility for love. Highlights include Hanan Huacaypata, an area of refined stone structures believed to have been of ceremonial or administrative importance. |
Day 4 | Visit to Machu Picchu |
Day 5 | Inca Innovations and Andean Traditions: Day Tour to Maras, Moray & Chinchero Begin with a visit to the Maras Salt Flats, a stunning patchwork of terraced pools used to extract salt since pre-Columbian times and still active today. Your guide will explain the historical and cultural significance of this photogenic site, where salt harvesting continues using traditional methods. Continue to Moray, an archaeological site unlike any other. Its circular terraces form a striking amphitheater-like shape carved into the earth. Experts believe this site served as an agricultural laboratory for the Incas, who used its varying microclimates to experiment with crop cultivation. Then visit Chinchero, a highland village considered by locals to be the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. Explore the 17th-century colonial church built atop Inca foundations and stroll through the lively market—particularly colorful on Sundays—where artisans from surrounding communities gather to sell textiles and crafts. |
Day 6 | Cusco city tour (half a day) |
Day 7 | Crossing the highland by bus from Cusco to Puno |
Day 8 | Titicaca Lake: Uros & Amantani island |
Day 9 | Titicaca Lake: Taquile island & return to Puno |
Day 10 | Puno – Tiwanaku – La Paz VISIT TO TIWANAKU ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE (from Desaguadero to La Paz) Nowadays, Tiwanaku remains an enigma for science, much of the stone creations defy explanation, posing more questions to archaeologists than answers. For example, the site is strewn with enormous blocks of stone weighing up to 25 tons that no known pre-Columbian culture had the technology to transport. Over 28 centuries, the Tiwanakus created some of the most impressive stone monoliths in the world, engineered an ingenious irrigation system and gained advanced understanding of astronomy and the workings of the sun. The fascinating civilization was truly advanced beyond their years. |
