OVERVIEW

Authentic Lake Titicaca: Llachón and Taquile Community Experience
This 4-day, 3-night add-on, from Cusco to Juliaca, offers a serene and authentic extension to any Cusco itinerary. Travelers will immerse themselves in the traditions of Llachón, a welcoming local community, and visit Taquile Island, renowned for its rich textile heritage and living cultural traditions. Focused entirely on community-based tourism, this journey avoids the Uros Islands and other crowded sites, allowing guests to experience the true spirit of Lake Titicaca, away from mass tourism.

For travelers with limited time or who prefer not to stay in a local home, a shorter option is available. This program focuses solely on Taquile Island, featuring a full-day boat tour and meaningful cultural encounters, without visiting Llachón.

ITINERARY
Day 1

Crossing the highland by bus from Cusco to Puno
Private transfer from your Hotel to the Bus Station with guide.
EXCURSION WITH TOURISTIC BUS (Full Day)
Shared Services
Public bus from Cusco to Puno. The journey takes about 10 hours.
Bus schedule: 07h00 – 17h30
You will leave Cusco early in order to visit some of the most wonderful destinations in Peru. You will visit Andahuaylillas, whose famous colonial church is known as the “Sixtine Chapel of the Americas” because of its beautiful painted ceiling and other art treasures and we will visit Raqchi, a great temple complex and your first encounter with Inca Ruins also known as the Temple of Wiracocha on route.
You will cross La Raya pass at an altitude of 4319 m. From here on you will be descending through a marvelous valley cultivated with lots of crops such as corn and potatoes. Buffet lunch en route.
And finally, one of the last visits on your way to Puno is the Pukara Museum, the stepped pyramid elaborated by the villagers of Pukara, 106 km to the north of Cusco, whose antiquity surpasses 3.500 years, it is impressive and enigmatic.
You will arrive at Puno in the afternoon.

Day 2

The Quiet Shores of Titicaca: Llachón Community
Travel by private vehicle from Puno to Llachón, with a few scenic stops along the way. Upon arrival, you are warmly welcomed by your local host families at the homestay. Spend some time getting to know the families and exploring the village, a small, authentic lakeside community where traditional farming, fishing, and weaving shape daily life. Llachón sits on the shores of Lake Titicaca, offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding Andes, with a landscape of gentle hills, terraced fields, and sparkling waters that stretch to the horizon.

Enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by your hosts, sampling local ingredients and recipes passed down through generations. In the afternoon, hike to one of the main lookout points of the peninsula, taking in panoramic vistas of the lake, islands, and mountains. For those with more energy, continue to the mountaintop temple “Auki Karus,” an ancient site where local legends and spiritual practices endure, framed by breathtaking scenery. Return to the homestay for dinner, sharing stories with your hosts and experiencing the warm rhythms of community life in this unique Andean village.

Day 3

Taquile Islands and return to Puno
After breakfast, we embark on a motorboat to Taquile Island. Upon arrival, we hike up to an open-air gathering to meet the local community and experience their rich cultural traditions, including traditional dances, rituals, and everyday life. Taquile is renowned for its extraordinary textile heritage, where men and women continue to weave by hand using techniques passed down through generations, with each piece reflecting the island’s history and social customs.
Enjoy a traditional lunch on the island (included), then descend to the port, taking in the spectacular views of Lake Titicaca and the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, we return by boat to Puno, arriving around 3:45 pm, followed by transfer to your selected hotel.

Day 4

Departure from Puno: Transfer to Juliaca or return to Cusco
Option 1: Morning transfer to the airport in Juliaca for domestic flight to Lima. End of services.
Option 2: Return to Cusco by tourist bus. End of services.

For those who prefer the shortened version without the homestay at Llachon Peninsula, Days 2 and 3 are combined into a full-day excursion to Taquile Island at the Titicaca Lake.

Day 2

Titicaca Lake: Day trip to Taquile Island
This excursion begins with pickup from your hotel in the morning, followed by transfer to the port for the boat trip to Taquile Island. Upon arrival, we hike along a narrow, gently ascending path toward the village, enjoying stunning views of Lake Titicaca and the traditional stone houses inhabited by Quechua-speaking locals. The hike takes approximately 50 minutes and leads to the main square of the island.
Here, we visit the communal cooperative and explore the island’s extraordinary cultural heritage. Taquile is renowned for its UNESCO-recognized textile tradition, where men and women continue to produce intricate handwoven garments using techniques passed down through generations. These textiles reflect the island’s social structure, history, and customs, offering a unique insight into the community’s way of life. The walk through the village also provides plenty of opportunities to interact with locals and capture memorable photographs.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant, after which we descend to the port and return by boat to Puno. Arrival is expected around 5–6 pm, followed by transfer back to your hotel.

Day 3

Puno – Juliaca
The trip ends with transfer to the airport in Juliaca.
Flight to Lima and connect with your international flight.
