Ausangate Circuit Trek & The Rainbow Mountain

PER-08 / 6-day trip / Grade: T2

Ausangate Circuit Trek and The Rainbow Mountain 1
OVERVIEW

The Ausangate trek remains a bit if a secret gem among other more famous and better know itineraries. Nevertheless, it is one of the best in Peru and definitely an experience for the intermediate and experience trekker. Located in the Vilcanota mountain range, only 100 km. South-East from the city of Cusco, it offers an authentic natural and social scenery to please the most demanding traveler. Vilcanota has several snowcapped high peaks of various technical difficulties, among them the highest summit in the region: Ausangate (6384 m) a holy place in the local believes.

The almost circular trek goes over 5 high latitude mountain passes, two of them over 5000 meters, dividing alpines valley where it is possible to find herds of alpacas and llamas and isolated villages still living in the traditional way. It is a camping based program and it is very important to be pre-acclimatized due to the average elevation (4500 m) during the entire program.

Our program not only includes this amazing classic trek, but it also visits the famous Vinicunca or Rainbow mountain, located on a side valley of the trek. This additional day, provides the opportunity to enjoy this unique geological phenomena, giving a more global insight into what the region and culture has to offer.

Do not miss this once in a life time experience!
