You’ll also explore the Cathedral’s Religious Art Museum, which houses a notable collection of ecclesiastical treasures. Next, we visit the iconic San Francisco Church and Monastery, known for its beautifully preserved cloisters adorned with authentic Sevillian tiles from 1620. Highlights of this stop include the Museum of Religious Art, the Zurbarán Room, and a fascinating old library. Beneath the monastery lie the famous catacombs, once used as a burial site during colonial times—an evocative reminder of the city’s layered history. |
Day 3 | Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley Nestled between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley was a vital area for the Inca civilization. Its mild climate and fertile plains made it ideal for agriculture, while its location served as a key trade route to the Amazon basin. Even today, the valley remains a vibrant agricultural region, supplying much of Cusco’s produce. Your tour starts with a visit to the Pisac Ruins, a remarkable Inca complex showcasing the architectural genius of the empire. Massive stone walls and terraces dominate the landscape, offering panoramic views of the valley below. After exploring the ruins, head to the Pisac Andean Market, where locals from surrounding communities gather to trade fresh produce, textiles, and handcrafted goods. This is a great opportunity to experience the local culture—and perhaps find a unique souvenir. In the afternoon, continue to the Ollantaytambo Ruins, one of the most significant and well-preserved Inca archaeological sites. Named after the legendary warrior Ollanta, who defied royal custom by falling in love with an Inca princess, these ruins include the striking Hanan Huacaypata, known for its finely carved stone terraces and ceremonial platforms. Your day concludes with a visit to Chinchero, a picturesque Andean village known for its traditional weaving techniques and vibrant textiles. Rich in Inca history, Chinchero also offers stunning views and a glimpse into the enduring traditions of the Andean people. Note: The order of the visits may change. |
Day 4 | Machu Picchu Hidden deep within the lush Peruvian cloud forest, Machu Picchu is one of the most extraordinary examples of landscape architecture ever created. Believed to have been a sacred site for Inca worship, the citadel seamlessly blends natural beauty with masterful stone construction. Your guided tour begins at the main entrance, where you’ll ascend a zigzagging path to reach a scenic terrace—an ideal spot for taking in panoramic views and capturing the iconic postcard-perfect photo of the site. From there, the tour moves into the heart of the citadel. Along the way, you’ll pass the ancient stone quarries and the Sacred Plaza, once the spiritual and social center of the complex. Continue down to the Sacred Rock, whose massive form is thought to mirror the mountain landscape behind it. The final stretch of your tour includes visits to the Eastern Qolqas (storehouses), the mystical Water Mirrors, and the tranquil Pisonay Plaza. On your return journey aboard the Vistadome Train, enjoy a unique onboard experience. The ride includes a live fashion show featuring a contemporary collection of baby alpaca garments—available for purchase—highlighting Peru’s renowned textile artistry. You’ll also be treated to traditional Andean dances and a complimentary snack made from local ingredients, accompanied by a selection of non-alcoholic beverages, offering a true taste of the Andes. |
Day 5 | Tour Maras and Moray Next, continue to the nearby town of Maras, a charming village known for its colonial-era church and, most notably, the Maras Salt Mines. These terraced salt pans, carved into the mountainside and still in use today, have been harvested since Inca times. The stunning contrast of white salt pools against the dramatic landscape makes this a favorite spot for photographers and nature lovers alike. After your visit, transfer to Cusco, where you’ll spend the night. |
Day 6 | Cusco City Tour You start this half-day tour at Cusco’s main square, which was called Huacaypata (Warriors Square) by the Incas. While the guide tells you more about the history of this special place, you can admire the city’s cathedral, which was built between 1560 and 1664, with the red granite stones from the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. The cathedral is without doubt one of the most impressive buildings in Cusco, and not only from the outside: the historical building host one of the most significant collections of gold and silver work of the colonial period. Next, you continue to Koricancha and the Convent of Santo Domingo. The convent was built on top of the most important Inca temple dedicated to the worship of the sun, with walls covered with gold leaf. Wandering through the streets of what once was the capital of the Inca Empire, you feel like you are travelling through time. After exploring Cusco, you head to the nearby ruins, such as the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, with its immense temple walls made out of huge stones constructed in a zigzag pattern; the red fort Puca Pucara; the Qenko Amphitheater, and Tambomachay, the Inca baths. Full of new knowledge about the history of the Incas, you return to your hotel in Cusco. |
