Yasuni National Park (+)
The Yasuní region, east of the town of Coca, lies in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Dominated by tropical rainforest, rivers, lagoons and wetlands, this part of Ecuador is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and provides excellent opportunities to experience the flora, wildlife and indigenous cultures of the Amazon.
Coca, officially known as Puerto Francisco de Orellana, is the principal gateway to the region. From here, journeys continue by boat along the Napo River and its tributaries, leaving the town behind and gradually entering a landscape of dense rainforest.
Yarina Eco Lodge is located in this Amazonian environment, with access to a variety of forest habitats, rivers and lagoons. Excursions combine walks and canoe trips, with opportunities to observe birds, monkeys, amphibians, butterflies and other wildlife, while learning about medicinal plants and the traditional uses of the forest. The programme also includes experiences connected with local Kichwa culture. The lodge itinerary, for example, features different ecosystems around Sapococha Lagoon and the Socali and Capibara trails, as well as exploration by canoe.
HOW THE YARINA PROGRAMME WORKS
Unlike a conventional lodge programme with a fixed Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4 itinerary, Yarina organizes its main excursions according to the day of the week.
This means that the activities included in your stay will depend on your arrival and departure dates and the number of nights you spend at the lodge. Guests staying four days, for example, will participate in the activities scheduled for those particular weekdays rather than following a separate fixed four-day itinerary.
Each weekday offers a different Amazon experience. Depending on your dates, activities may include exploring Sapococha Lagoon, walking the Socali, Capibara, Dos Ramas, Guatusos or Alligator trails, piranha fishing, visiting an Amazon observation tower, navigating the Napo River or visiting a local Kichwa family.
