Puno – La Paz

This picturesque drive will take approximately 5 hours, offering stunning views of the Andean landscape as you ascend towards the heart of Bolivia.

La Paz – Uyuni: Explore the Wonders of the Uyuni Salt Flats
Transfer from your hotel to the airport in the city of El Alto, about 17.5 km from La Paz and it will take approximately 50 minutes to arrive.

EXCURSION TO UYUNI TOUR WITH SUNSET (Full day)
Today you will visit the most impressive natural attraction of Bolivia, the Uyuni Salt Flats. These are the largest salt flats in the entire world. They offer one of the most incredible views that you can imagine. The terrain seems to blend in with the sky, looking as if the salt flats continue on forever into the heavens. You will begin your time here at the odd and eerie train cemetery. These trains date back to the 1930s, approximately. The hollow bodies of the locomotives have long since been filled with dust and rust, but they are important to Bolivia’s history. Due to the collapse of the mining industry, the grand idea of Uyuni being an important train stop never came to fruition.  Therefore, 100’s of cars were left to rot with the mixture of rain and salt, only causing them to fade into history even faster.

During this first day you will also visit the town of Colchani. It is mainly a salt-processing town that mines the salt flats, however they also have learned to make hand-made objects out of the salt. You can purchase these as souvenirs during the visit. You’ll see the artisanal salt factory located here and later you will enter the majestic salt flat where you can see how the salt is collected. It is also the best opportunity to let your creativity flow to have an especially neat optical illusion photo shoot near the natural breathing conductors called “Ojos de Sal” are found. The conductors have water emerging from beneath the hardened salt crust, therefore making the ground look like glass, reflecting the sky perfectly onto the earth.

The last visit of the day will be at Incahuasi Island. The island is located in the middle of the salt flat, covered with ancient cacti, some that grew up to 18 meters tall. This rare ecosystem survived petrified for many centuries and the cacti contrast so beautifully against the unique landscape. You will have a toast with Andean liqueurs before returning to your hotel.

STARGAZING TOUR (2 hours)
The Uyuni sky is considered one of the clearest in the world, which is perfect for a night of stargazing.  In the evening you will depart into the salt flat for a night-time tour to enjoy the evening sky as you have never before experienced.  Thanks to the lack of pollution and the high altitude, the stars and milky way appear to be brighter than ever. The salar almost seems like a constellation of its own at night as the salt crystals create myriads of sparks and glitters, it is almost hard to tell them apart from the sky. Learning about the constellations in the southern hemisphere has never been more exciting.

Return to La Paz & City tour
Transfer from your Hotel in Colchani to Joya Andina International Airport in Uyuni. It will take approximately 30 minutes to arrive.
Domestic flight.
Transfer from El Alto International Airport to your selected hotel in La Paz. This is the highest international airport in the world with an altitude of 4 060 meters above the sea level. The airport is located in the city of El Alto, about 17.5 km from La Paz and it will take approximately 50 minutes to arrive. 

LA PAZ CITY TOUR & MOON VALLEY (Half day)
When you visit the highest capital city of the world, La Paz, you are welcomed by extreme geography, fragrant markets, chaotic streets and colorfully dressed Bolivians roaming around the city. La Paz is known as “Nuestra Señora de La Paz” and is located in Western Bolivia.
During the city tour you will visit the Plaza Murillo where the Bolivian government is based, as well as an important and immense cathedral and the Presidential Palace. There are also very interesting markets to visit such as the “Mercado de las Brujas” where community healers will offer an array of medicinal plants as well as potions, powders, incense, amulets and talismans that ensure good health, luck, beauty and fertility. You will also see locals practicing traditional rituals such as reading the fortune in coca leaves.
Then, you will visit Moon Valley, aptly named, this site is unique for its features of lunar-like landscapes and bizarre geological formations. The Moon Valley is not actually a valley but a maze of canyons and giant spires. The clay and sandstone formations were formed by the erosion of mountains because of strong winds and rains. One of the most breathtaking features of the place is its varied colors ranging from clear beige tones to sections of red and dark purple due to the different mineral content between each individual mountain. Several species of cactus grow among the stalagmites, including the hallucinogenic Choma, or San Pedro cactus.
