Begin your journey in Bogotá with a panoramic descent from the iconic Monserrate Hill, offering sweeping views of the capital nestled in the Andean highlands. Venture into Chingaza National Park for a hike to the mystical Siecha Lakes, surrounded by high-altitude páramo landscapes and rich biodiversity.

Continue to the heart of the Coffee Region, where rolling green hills and cloud forests set the stage for exploration. Stroll through the colorful streets of Salento and its vibrant surroundings. Embark on a challenging yet rewarding hike through the Cocora Valley, where Colombia’s national tree, the towering wax palm, rises dramatically into the misty sky. Round out the experience with an authentic coffee tour, learning firsthand from local producers about Colombia’s globally renowned coffee traditions.

Your adventure then moves to the Caribbean coast. Delve into indigenous heritage with a visit to the Teyku settlement, followed by an unforgettable hike along the Tayrona National Park coastline, where rainforest trails open to hidden coves and golden beaches. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE VISIT TO TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK:

Due to regulations established by local Indigenous communities, Tayrona National Park will be closed three times a year during the following periods:

* February 1st to 15th
* June 1st to 15th
* October 19th to November 2nd

ITINERARY
Day 1

Arrival in Bogota
Reception at the airport and transfer to hotel.

Bogotá, the bustling capital of Colombia, is a city where rich history meets vibrant modernity. Nestled high in the Andes at an altitude of 2,640 meters, Bogotá offers a unique blend of cultural experiences, historical landmarks, and a dynamic urban life. The city’s lively atmosphere is complemented by a thriving culinary scene, with a wide array of restaurants offering both traditional Colombian dishes and international cuisine. The vibrant nightlife, with numerous bars, clubs, and live music venues, ensures there’s always something to do after dark.

Bogotá’s fusion of tradition and innovation makes it an essential stop for any traveler exploring Colombia.

Day 2

Bogota (2660 m) – Full day city tour & hike down from Monserrate
Full-day private tour of Bogotá’s historic center. After breakfast, meet your guide for a tour of the capital’s colonial center. The first visit is a cable car/train ride to the Sanctuary of Monserrate, an emblematic church located at an altitude of 3152 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the city.
The hike down from Monserrate begins with a steep, stone-paved trail, once used by pilgrims. As you descend, the cool mountain air gives way to the warmth and movement of the city below. The path winds through lush greenery, gradually revealing the rooftops and colonial facades of La Candelaria. At the base, you step into a neighborhood of colorful houses, cobbled streets, murals, and street life.

Hike: Descend to the cable-car station: 464 m / Distance: 2,6 Km / Activity duration: 45 min.

Afterwards, begin your walking tour in Plaza de Bolívar, the heart of La Candelaria. This spacious plaza is surrounded by some of the city’s most important institutions, including the imposing Primada Cathedral, the neoclassical National Capitol, and the Palace of Justice. Enjoy the grandeur of these buildings and learn about their historical significance. From Plaza de Bolívar, stroll through the cobblestone streets of La Candelaria, lined with colorful colonial buildings adorned with wooden balconies and doors. As you walk, your guide will tell you stories about the neighborhood’s history, from its origins as a colonial settlement to its role in Colombia’s fight for independence.

Stop at the Botero Museum, housed in a colonial mansion, to admire the works of Colombia’s most famous artist, Fernando Botero. Marvel at his signature “Boterismo” style, characterized by exaggerated proportions and whimsical themes, as you explore the collection of the master’s paintings, sculptures, and drawings.

Finally, end your tour with a visit to the Gold Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of pre-Columbian gold artifacts. Marvel at the elaborate goldsmithing of these ancient treasures, which offer insight into the rich cultural heritage of Colombia’s indigenous peoples.
With its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant street life, a walking tour of La Candelaria is a must-do for anyone visiting Bogotá.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BOGOTÁ CITY TOUR:

– The Gold Museum is closed every Monday, including Mondays that fall on a holiday.

– The Botero Museum is closed every Tuesday.

Day 3

Chingaza National Park – Trek to Siecha Lakes (3620 m)
An early drive to the entrance of the National Park in Guasca (3150 m), which will take roughly 2 hours, depending on traffic.

Upon registration, the team will commence the hike to the Siecha Lakes. The hike ascends through the Andean highland, known as the “paramo,” with its characteristic flora and fauna. First, we will pass by the National Park’s Paso Hondo Refuge, then ascend to the first of the lakes known as De Los Patos Lake. Next is Guasca Lake, and finally, the sacred Siecha Lake (3620 m). This last lake is where the Muisca indigenous ancestors practiced the legend of El Dorado, covering their bodies with gold dust to bathe and offer it to the lake and Mother Earth.

After the hike, we will drive back to Bogotá.

Ascent: 470 m / Descent: 470 m / Highest Altitude: 3620 m / Distance: 5.18 km one-way / Activity duration: 5-6 hours

Day 4

Bogota – Salento (1919 m) – Coffee tour
Pick-up at the hotel and transfer to the domestic terminal for a flight to the city of Armenia or Pereira. Upon arrival, transfer to the lovely town of Salento, a charming town in the heart of Colombia’s Coffee Region, located in the department of Quindío. Known for its colorful colonial architecture and vibrant streets, it is the gateway to the famous Cocora Valley, home to the towering wax palm: Colombia’s national tree.

Salento enjoys a mild mountain climate and lush, green landscapes. The town is part of the UNESCO-listed Coffee Cultural Landscape, offering visitors the chance to explore traditional coffee farms, artisan shops, and scenic viewpoints like the Alto de la Cruz.

Salento combines natural beauty, cultural richness, and authentic local experiences, making it a favorite stop for nature and culture lovers.

In the afternoon, the group will have a coffee tour at one of the traditional coffee farms in the area. In the coffee tour, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of Colombian coffee while exploring the farm´s lush coffee plantations. Expert local guides explain the complete production process, from planting the beans to harvesting and roasting. Tourists can also participate in bean picking, learn about different coffee varieties, and enjoy tastings of fresh coffee while taking in the stunning views of Salento’s mountainous landscapes. It’s an educational and sensory experience that allows visitors to appreciate the passion and dedicated work behind every cup of Colombian coffee.

Day 5

Cocora Valley hike & Salento walking tour
The Cocora Valley, located in Colombia’s Coffee Region, offers one of the country’s most scenic
hikes. The long circular hike to Acaime is a must-do for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
This hike covers approximately 11 km and takes about 5 hours, depending on your pace and
stops. With a moderate to difficulty level.

Starting at the main entrance of the Cocora Valley, the hike begins with a gradual ascent
through lush cloud forests. Waterproof boots are recommended as the path can be muddy.
You will cross several wooden bridges over the Quindío River, adding an adventurous touch to
the hike.

After a few hours, you will reach the Acaime Nature Reserve, known for its hummingbird
sanctuary. Here, you can take a break, enjoy a hot drink, and observe various species of
hummingbirds up close. The trail then continues uphill towards La Montaña, the most
challenging part of the hike with a steep ascent through dense forest. Once at the top, the
trail descends through open fields with stunning views of the valley and the iconic wax palms
(Ceroxylon quindiuense), Colombia’s national tree. The final section of the hike takes you back
to the starting point, passing through more scenic landscapes.

After exploring the Cocora Valley, return to the picturesque town of Salento, located in the
heart of Colombia’s Coffee Region. Stroll through its colorful streets lined with traditional
whitewashed houses adorned with vibrant doors and windows. Immerse yourself in the
relaxed atmosphere of this charming town as you visit local craft shops and taste delicious
Colombian cuisine at cozy cafés and restaurants. Take some time to wander around the
bustling central square of the town, Plaza Bolívar, where you can mingle with the locals, enjoy
a delicious meal at one of the numerous restaurants. A tour of the Cocora Valley and Salento
offers an unforgettable combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and warm Colombian
hospitality, making it one of the highlights of any visit to this beautiful country.

Day 6

Flight to Santa Marta – Tayrona National Park
Morning transfer to the airport and flight to Santa Marta. Upon arrival, transfer to Tayrona National Park.

Tayrona National Park is one of Colombia’s most famous natural parks, featuring some of the most beautiful beaches on the Caribbean coast. Located at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountain range in the world, the park covers a protected area of 150 km² of land and 30 km² of sea, making it the second most visited park in the country. Thanks to its privileged location, the park is home to a rich biodiversity and also features archaeological ruins such as “Pueblito.”

Arrival to the Park around lunch time, check-in and free afternoon to enjoy the beaches.

Day 7

Tayrona National Park: Tayku Kogi settlement & hike along the park’s coastline
Full-day tour to the Tayrona National Park. This is one of the most famous natural parks in Colombia with some of the most beautiful beaches of the Colombian Caribbean coast, right at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the world´s highest coastal mountain range. The park has a protected area of 150 km2 of land and 30 Km2 of sea, being the second most visited park in the country. Due to its privilege location, there is a huge biodiversity and also archeological ruins scattered around.

Early pick up and drive to the town of Calabazo (145 m), our entry point to the park. Our trail immerses us in the tropical forest, offering glimpses of the local fauna and flora. After approximately an hour and a half, we reach the village of Tayku, a small settlement inhabited by Kogui families, one of the four indigenous groups residing in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Upon arrival, we engage in a tour led by an Indigenous Kogi member, exploring their community, including the ceremonial house, observing their crops, and witnessing the traditional process of obtaining fique for crafting their backpacks. Subsequently, the MAMO (Highest Authority of the community) welcomes us to share insights into their customs and engage in a brief cultural exchange.
Once our interaction in the village concludes, we trek back to Cabo San Juan beach, an approximately two-and-a-half-hour walk, passing through the Boca del Saco area before reaching the beach. Here, we have the option to enjoy lunch and relax on the beach for a while.
Continuing our journey along the coastal paths of the Park, we visit La Piscina Natural, named for its coral barrier that allows us to observe the area’s marine life and take a dip. We proceed to a beach known as Arenillas and finally reach the Arrecifes. After approximately two hours, we arrive at the Canaveral sector, where our vehicle awaits to transport us back to our hotel.
