Sierra Nevada’s Living Wisdom in Tayku Village with the Koguis
COL-03 / 1-day Trip
This unique day tour combines nature, culture, and community in the heart of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Your journey begins with a vehicle transfer to the rural town of Calabazo, followed by a scenic hike of approximately 3 hours through lush mountain trails—suitable for travelers with a medium to high fitness level.
Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by the Tayku Community for an immersive cultural experience meeting the Kogui. These indigenous people live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, on the northern slopes overlooking the Caribbean Sea, on the tributaries of the Don Diego, Palomino, and Ancho rivers. They are one of the four indigenous communities settled on the temperate slopes of the northern, eastern, and western Sierra.
In this tour you will learn about their traditions, daily life, and ancestral connection to the land. The visit includes guided tours and meaningful exchanges with community members who will show us this small community of approximately 15 malokas, including the ceremonial house.
For a relaxing end to your day, you have the option to enjoy a traditional lunch at Playa Los Cocos, a tranquil beach where the mountains meet the Caribbean Sea.
