First Class Jungle Lodges: Three Levels of Amazon Immersion
PER-78 / 3, 4 or 5-days trip

Three Distinct Immersions in Tambopata
The Rainforest Expeditions lodges in Tambopata are a collection of first-class Amazon ecolodges, offering high comfort, professional guiding, and seamless logistics in one of the most biodiverse regions of Peru.
All lodges are reached from Puerto Maldonado, with smooth boat transfers along the Tambopata River:
- Approx. 2 hours to Posada Amazonas and Refugio Amazonas
- Approx. 3.5 hours to Tambopata Research Center
While all three lodges share the same high standard of accommodation and service, each is located in a different ecological setting and offers a distinct level of immersion into the rainforest. Together, they create a progressive journey from cultural contact to deep wilderness.
Posada Amazonas – Cultural Rainforest Introduction
Posada Amazonas is the most accessible lodge and offers an excellent first encounter with the Amazon. It is uniquely significant as it is owned and jointly managed with the Ese Eja Indigenous community, providing a direct connection to local culture and traditional forest knowledge.
Ideal for travellers seeking:
- Comfortable introduction to the Amazon
- Indigenous culture and guided interpretation
- Shorter stays or first-time jungle experience
Refugio Amazonas – Deeper Nature Immersion
Located further into the rainforest, Refugio Amazonas offers a more immersive jungle experience within a private conservation area. It is known for its rich wildlife and opportunities to explore canopy systems, oxbow lakes, and active ecological projects.
Ideal for travellers seeking:
- Strong wildlife and nature focus
- Deeper rainforest immersion
- Active exploration with comfortable lodging
Tambopata Research Center – Deep Jungle Experience
The most remote of the three, Tambopata Research Center lies inside the Tambopata National Reserve, surrounded by primary rainforest. It offers the highest level of immersion and exceptional wildlife encounters, including one of the most important macaw clay licks in the Amazon.
Ideal for travellers seeking:
- Remote and pristine rainforest setting
- High biodiversity and wildlife density
- Extended, expedition-style experience
Combine the Lodges – A Progressive Amazon Journey
The lodges can be combined to create a seamless journey into increasingly remote rainforest environments. Many travellers choose to start with cultural immersion and gradually move deeper into the jungle.
Popular combinations include:
- Posada Amazonas + Refugio Amazonas
- Refugio Amazonas + Tambopata Research Center
Each combination is carefully designed to offer smooth logistics and a rich variety of rainforest experiences within one coherent itinerary.
Rainforest Expeditions offers a range of itineraries designed around different travel interests and styles, including family travel, wellness, soft adventure, photography, wildlife-focused journeys, multisport activities, and biology-oriented experiences. Each program combines comfortable first-class jungle accommodation with immersive exploration of the Tambopata rainforest.
